A Letter from Dad 

 

Money is an essential part of life in the modern world, and its importance continues to grow. 

 

Here is a letter that an accountant wrote to his young daughter, Sohui, to give her some advice about money. 

 

Let's read the letter. 

 

Then think about your attitude toward money and ways to use it wisely.

 

 

 

Dear Sohui, 

 

You might be wondering the reason why I'm writing this letter to you. 

 

Of course, as always, I want to tell you to study hard. 

 

But I also want to give you some advice on a topic that you don't learn much about in school 

 

:how to deal with money. 

 

The first thing to remember is to be conscious of the way you approach money. 

 

Money allows us to buy or sell products and services conveniently. 

 

However, it may have a bad influence on you based on the way you use it.

 

Money was first created as a medium of exchange, and this made trading simpler and easier. 

 

But soon, money's negative effects emerged as it became a tool for measuring the value of individuals. 

 

When you use money to compare yourself to others, it starts to control you. 

 

Once it controls you, you'll continuously struggle only to earn more and more money without reflecting on the real reason for earning it. 

 

In the end, your life's goal will become money itself. 

 

It is true that money is indispensable to our society. 

 

However, you should try to maintain a sense of balance when you deal with money,

 

 and don't allow it to become a negative force in your life.

 

 

Next, remember that you should try not to borrow money from friends, 

 

even if you find yourself in a desperate situation. 

 

True friendship is only possible when two individuals are equal in their relationship. 

 

Borrowing money, though, can disrupt this equal relationship. 

 

Moreover, if you don't pay the money back as agreed, conflicts can easily develop and ruin your friendship. 

 

Every once in a while, you might have to borrow a small amount of money to do something simple, like riding a bus. 

 

When this happens, make a note of the amount of money you borrowed so that you don't forget. 

 

Be sure to pay the money back as soon as possible, no matter how small the amount is.

 

 

 

In addition, I hope that you will become a thrifty person, not a stingy one.

 

 Thrifty people don't spend money on unnecessary things. 

 

On the other hand, stingy people hardly spend any money at all. 

 

Because they are obsessed with the idea that money should never be spent, 

 

they become puppets that are manipulated by money. 

 

I want you to spend money on what you really enjoy, such as watching your favorite movies or going to art exhibitions. 

 

And instead of liking something merely because it is expensive, 

 

try to develop your own tastes when it comes to precious and beautiful things.

 

 

 

Finally, be glad to share your money with others.

 

 If you make donations to people in need, you'll see the truly positive influence that money can have. 

 

I hope you will keep my advice in mind and grow to be an adult who uses money wisely.
